Murchison Fall National Park
The park lies in the mid-western region of Uganda, in the districts of: Buliisa, Nwoya, Kiryandongo, and Masindi. It is the largest and one of Ugandas’ oldest protected areas. It has an area of 5072Km2, when combined with Bugungu and Karuma Game Reserves. It was started as a game reserve in 1926, and then was upgraded to a national park status in 1952.

Murchison Falls where the park gets its name is the Worlds’
Most Powerful Waterfall. It is where the longest river in Africa explodes amazingly as the white waters squeeze through the narrow gorge. After passing through the seven metre wide gorge, it tumbles 43 metres, and then flows westwards into Lake Albert.
Murchison Falls were named after the geologist Sir Fredrick Murchison, who was then President of Great Britains’ Royal Geographical Society. The falls were named by explorer Sir Samuel White Baker in 1864. It is also the most popular and unique tourist attraction of the park.
